HISTORY
The Guam Law Library was established pursuant
to Guam
Public Law 14-155 (1978). It is a tax-exempt non-profit
educational corporation and donations to the Library
are tax-deductible. It is the largest and most
complete legal research center in Guam serving
the entire Western Pacific Community.
The Board of Trustees is appointed by the Governor,
the Legislature, the Judiciary and the Guam Bar
Association. The first Board of Trustees purchased
a small tin-roofed house on San Ramon Road to
serve as the headquarters for the Law Library.
In 1980, a first addition opened to an enthusiastic
public. In 1988, a second building was added and
in 1991 major reconstruction was begun to raze
the original building. Completed in January 1993,
the new reading room houses sets of general references
as well as the California and Guam law sections.
This building provides a focal point for the integration
of all three wings, bringing the Law Library under
a single roof.
In 1996, the addition was remodeled to expand
the library to add a new conference room, a microfiche
room and additional shelving. The Library continues
to grow to serve the needs of the community.
